>>> Austin: [ Laughs ] This is the part of business that I love.

>>> Sami: Oh, really? Taking over and dismantling other people's companies?

>>> Austin: No. No. That's the ugly part. No. No. It's -- what I love is the challenge of taking something that was failing, you know, and making it a success.

>>> Sami: Yeah, but don't you think cutting up Highstyle like this is just a little bit ruthless?

>>> Austin: Uh, you know -- I don't know. Sometimes you have to be a little ruthless in business. Hopefully it'll work to everyone's benefit in the end. You can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs. That's what I was trying to tell Carrie. If she had been a little tougher, she may not have lost her company.

>>> Sami: Too bad you didn't reconnect with her sooner. Maybe you could have helped her save her company.

>>> Austin: I feel really terrible about what happened to her, especially when here I am -- here we are -- celebrating acquiring someone else's failing company.

>>> Austin: [ Exhales deeply ] Since she's got to go back to L.A. to deal with everything, I think -- yeah, I think maybe I'll go with her.

>>> Sami: Austin, you can't.

>>> Carrie: Lucas, I need to get back to Los Angeles. I feel so helpless here.

>>> Lucas: There's -- there's really not much more you can do, is there?

>>> Carrie: I need to find out who blindsided my company, and I need to be with my employees. They're like a family to me. Now they're gonna start the new year out of work. I don't want them to think that I'm hiding from them. And, you know, somehow I'm thinking that maybe there's something I can do to save the company.

>>> Lucas: Well, I hope so. If there's anything I can do to help, just let me know, okay?

>>> Carrie: Thanks, Lucas. I appreciate it, but you don't have to do anything.

>>> Lucas: No, no, wait a minute. Between you and me and all the resources at Titan, I could go back to L.A. With you. I'll bet we can come up with something.

>>> Kate: I can't tell you how sorry I am about your little brother. When we were praying for a miracle for Claire -- when -- well, we knew if she got that transplant, it would be through another family's tragedy, but for it to happen this way is... Zack was a really wonderful little boy, Shawn.

>>> Shawn D.: Thank you for saying that. He was. I'm just glad the liver transplant was a success.

>>> Kate: [ Thinking ] It's because your Claire's father, Shawn, but you're never going to know that. So, where's, uh, where's Mimi?

>>> Shawn D.: She went home. She didn't want to, but she was so tired, she was falling asleep standing up, so...

>>> Kate: Why didn't you go with her?

>>> Shawn D.: She wanted me to, but I just can't leave right now. My parents are here, and... Zack... I just hope Belle and Philip are able to get some rest.

>>> Kate: Yeah, I was hoping the same thing. I was just hoping they'd go home for a couple of hours -- maybe get a little sleep.

>>> Shawn D.: They're not gonna leave here without Claire. The next time they go home, she will be with them.

>>> Kate: Yeah. Look, I really don't know how to thank you for everything you did for Belle and for Philip and for Claire. You were a great support to them.

>>> Shawn D.: Yeah, it wasn't a problem. I'm her godfather. I actually feel like she's my own, so --

>>> Kate: [ Exhales deeply ] You know, we are all so happy about your engagement. You and Mimi -- you really deserve every happiness.

>>> Shawn D.: Yeah. Thank you. Uh, actually Mimi told me that you offered an all-expense-paid honeymoon for us as long as we did an article for Salem Style Magazine?

>>> Kate: Mm-hmm. Yes. I thought it was the least I could do.

>>> Shawn D.: Really? I -- it's just that it's no secret that I'm not your favorite person, Kate, so I'm wondering, "what are you really up to?"

>>> Hope: How could Billie have done something like this? Does she really hate our family that much?

>>> Bo: Hope, it was an accident.

>>> Hope: What are you talking about? She left Zack in the street. She didn't even go back. She didn't call 911. My God, she's inhuman.

>>> Bo: Hope --

>>> Hope: Don't you dare try to defend that woman to me. Don't do it. She killed my son. She killed him.

>>> Bo: Hey, Roman.

>>> Roman: Lexie, uh -- Lexie told me you were still here.

>>> Bo: Yeah, we, um -- we can't go home right now.

>>> Hope: I can't even imagine what that's gonna be like.

>>> Hope: [ Crying ] Walking into his room... seeing his toys, his books, his clothes... his blankey.

>>> Roman: Look, I cannot imagine what you two are going through, and I am so sorry. I am so sorry, Hope.

>>> Hope: [ Crying ]

>>> Marlena: No, no, no! You're wrong! It was not Alex! It was Lois!

>>> Lois: She's confused, John. It was Alex. Alex was trying to kill Marlena. I got up here just in time to see him push her off the roof.

>>> Marlena: That's not true. It was Lois, and I can prove it.

>>> John: Aren't you a little confused? Don't you mean Alex?

>>> Marlena: No! It was Lois!

>>> Alex: Listen to her!

>>> John: Shut up! You don't even know what you're saying.

>>> Marlena: I know exactly what I'm saying. You listen to me. It was Lois. I was in my office. I was resting. She -- she broke in, attacked me, tried to kill me. I ran for the door, and she hit me with something -- knocked me out -- and somehow got me onto the roof. I was hanging from the ledge by my fingertips, and she was trying to pry me loose, and that's when Alex broke in to save me.

>>> John: [ Exhales deeply ]

>>> Marlena: No, you don't! No, you don't! It's over. Don't you get it, Lois?

>>> Lois: Get off of me! You should be dead!

>>> John: Come on.

>>> Lois: What are you doing?! Get off of me!

>>> Marlena: Do you get it now? It was her. She was trying to kill me in the penthouse when Alex broke in, tried to save me. That's when you shot him and almost killed him.

>>> Alex: I tried to warn you about her, John, but you wouldn't listen to me. If she had killed Marlena, her blood would have been on your hands.

>>> Kate: [ Scoffs ] What am I up to?

>>> Shawn D.: Yeah. Why are you pushing so hard for Mimi and I to hurry up and get married?

>>> Kate: Well, I'm sorry. I didn't realize that I was pushing. I knew that you and Mimi had suffered some terrible losses this year, and I was trying to help you turn things around. I was trying to help you be together. That is what you want, right?

>>> Shawn D.: Sure, sure. But what's in this for you?

>>> Kate: [ Scoffs ] Well, it makes good business sense, for one thing.

>>> Shawn D.: Yeah?

>>> Kate: Mm-hmm.

>>> Shawn D.: I seem to remember a time when you did that for Sami and Lucas -- a big, extravagant wedding paid for by Basic Black -- but that was so Sami would never suspect you of plotting against her the entire time. You see, Kate, you're always up to something.

>>> Kate: Believe me, Shawn, there is nothing I would like better than to see you and Mimi happily married.

>>> Shawn D.: Oh, well, that does make perfect sense because you never liked Mimi, right? You never thought that she was good enough for rex, and it's no secret how you feel about me. I don't need to remind you of driving through a church window, nearly killing your son and Belle at their wedding. You thought I was a real bastard. I think you tried to have me thrown in jail, too.

>>> Kate: I believe you've changed. I believe that you have matured. And I don't think you'd ever try to break up Philip and Belle again, would you, especially now that they have a child?

>>> Shawn D.: Well, no, of course not, you see, because I'm trying to build a future with Mimi.

>>> Kate: I know that. I know that, and we all just want to see you happy. Shawn, you're Claire's godfather. I don't think I'm ever going to really be able to tell you how much I appreciate what you did for Belle and Philip during Claire's illness. You did so much for our family. Shawn, can't you at least let me do this little thing for you and Mimi?

>>> Shawn D.: Thank you. I-I will -- I will think about it, and I will be sure to discuss it with Mimi. But for now, I should probably go find my parents.

>>> Kate: Of course. I'm sure they need you.

>>> Shawn D.: Yeah. Thank you, by the way, for caring.

>>> Kate: The only thing I care about right now is Phillip's happiness, because the sooner you and Mimi are married, the safer his marriage will be.

>>> Hope: [ Sniffles ]

>>> Roman: I'm sorry that it took me a while to get here. What can I do?

>>> Hope: See to it that Billie gets the punishment she deserves for murdering my son.

>>> Roman: Well, Hope, she will be punished to the full extent of the law, but you know it wasn't murder. I mean, Billie said she didn't even know she hit Zack.

>>> Hope: She stole Bo's car and then committed hit-and-run. What do you call that? What is it? What is it if it's not murder?!

>>> Carrie: Lucas, that is a very generous offer, but I can't accept it.

>>> Lucas: Why not?

>>> Carrie: Because you just started your own job, and you don't have time for this. And, besides, Titan is the competition, and I need to face my employees -- sorry, my ex-employees -- on my own.

>>> Lucas: All right, look, I'll make you a deal. If it comes to that -- if you have to talk to your employees, then I'll leave the room. But I'm telling you, Titan can help you. We can invest in your company. We can infuse enough cash to halt the takeover.

>>> Carrie: I don't know what to say.

>>> Lucas: Just say yes. I'll fuel up the Titan jet, and we're out of here right now.

>>> Carrie: [ Exhales deeply ] I appreciate that so much, Lucas, but as hard as this is, I have to take care of this myself.

>>> Lucas: All right. I understand. But I'm here for you if you change your mind.

>>> Carrie: [ Sighs ] I just wish I knew who staged this raid on my company.

>>> Lucas: Oh, you'll find out soon enough. Whoever it is, they're heartless. They only care about the bottom line. He doesn't care about who he hurts.

>>> Austin: Why don't you want me to go to L.A. with Carrie? I thought you were trying to be supportive of our relationship this time around.

>>> Sami: Austin, this has nothing to do with your love life. It has to do with your job and my job. You just took over Highstyle. Don't you think you should stay here and focus your attention on that?

>>> Austin: Well --

>>> Austin: [ Chuckles ] Highstyle's based in L.A. Maybe I could go out there, kill two birds with with one stone. I could help Carrie try to save her company and meet Highstyle's outgoing CEO And try to use her to help the transition.

>> Sami: You just raided her company. Somehow I don't think Highstyle's former CEO Is gonna want to look at you, never mind work with you.

>>> Austin: Maybe, maybe not. I can understand her not liking me, hating me, however she feels, but Nicole was right -- that company was going to crash and burn, you know? I did that CEO A favor by saving the product line.

>>> Sami: I just don't think she's gonna see it that way, and I think you should stay here and focus on the next step in your business plan. All right. Fine. If you want to go to L.A., you know, go. We can postpone moving in to the new office, and I can call and reschedule all your appointments with the distributor and the loan officer, and I think you were gonna meet with Mickey, so I could call him.

>>> Austin: Point made. Point made. You're right. I should be staying here. You know, I just -- I feel really bad for Carrie. I want to be there for her.

>>> Sami: I understand. I mean, of course you do. So you should go see her before she leaves, and you should explain everything that's happening with your company.

>>> Austin: No. No. The details of my big deal are the last thing that Carrie needs to hear today.

>>> Sami: You have to tell her.

>>> John: Stop it! Lois was the one who attacked you?

>>> Alex: Yes, damn it. How many times does she have to say it?! If you weren't so paranoid and hell-bent on proving that I was dangerous, you would have believed me, and Marlena would never have been put in danger in the first place.

>>> Marlena: And you wouldn't have nearly killed Alex, either.

>>> John: You were the one who was going after Marlena this whole time? Were you?!

>>> Lois: [ Crying ] Yes. What Alex and I shared was very special, and that love was denied me because she ruined my life all those years ago!

>>> Alex: We had no special love, Lois. It was all in your head.

>>> Marlena: Whatever you claim I did, I have no memory of it.

>>> Lois: But I do, and I swore I would take my revenge! And this was my perfect chance, but every time I tried, somebody came riding to your rescue! How many men do you need?! You're tormenting them all! They were just so much better off without you! You deserve to die! Why can't you be dead?!

>> [ Crying ]

>>> Shawn D.: I never thought it was gonna be somebody we knew. And Dad's car -- why would Billie borrow it without even telling him? And how would she hit Zack --

>>> Hope: She's trying to say it was an accident, but it wasn't. It was murder.

>>> Shawn D.: Of course it was murder, and Uncle Roman and Dad -- they're gonna make sure she's punished.

>>> Bo: Hey. Um, I'll be right back, okay? Hang here with your mom?

>>> Shawn D.: Yeah. Sure.

>>> Bo: I got to talk to you as my brother, not a cop.

>>> Roman: Of course. You know family comes first.

>>> Bo: Billie wasn't the one driving the car that hit Zack.

>>> Roman: What? Why in the hell did Billie confess? And if she didn't do it, who did? Do you know?

>>> Bo: It was Chelsea.

>>> Carrie: Lucas, I'm gonna be honest with you, and I want you to do the same with me.

>>> Lucas: Yeah.

>>> Carrie: I know that you were hoping that we could be more than friends this time around, right?

>>> Lucas: [ Sighs ] Yeah. Yeah, I was.

>>> Carrie: And I know that you're disappointed that I reconnected with Austin.

>>> Lucas: I just want you to be happy. I want you to be with the man that's right for you.

>>> Carrie: That's why you're such a good friend. Even though you know I've chosen Austin, you're still offering to help. I just -- I don't want you to come to L.A. with any expectations, you know, that things might change with our relationship.

>>> Lucas: Why would I, you know? I-I have no expectations. I'm -- I'm there for you as a friend. I know how much you love that company.

>>> Carrie: [ Exhales deeply ] It was the way I was going to redefine who I was and what I wanted. I needed it in my life. I needed to feel like a success again. I let down so many people.

>>> Lucas: No, you didn't. You didn't. This is not your fault. You're not to blame for this, Carrie.

>>> Carrie: [ Exhales sharply ] I don't know. Austin's been incredibly supportive, but he was pretty blunt. He said that I needed to be more ruthless and that I was more concerned about my employees' happiness than I was about the bottom line.

>>> Lucas: Wait a minute. You have a very good heart -- the purest of all hearts. That's why your employees love you.

>>> Carrie: But Austin had a point -- where does it leave the employees if the business fails? I was too concerned about making everyone happy and trying to like me than I was to really look out for them. Right now I'm sure they'd rather love me less if they could have their jobs back.

>>> Lucas: I wouldn't say that.

>> [ Cellphone rings ]

>>> Carrie: Hi, Becky. How'd it go?

>>> Carrie: [ Sighs ] Okay. Well, I'll be in touch as soon as I finalize my plans. Thanks, Becky. I'm really sorry.

>>> Lucas: So... what?

>>> Carrie: You don't have to come to L.A. with me. It's over. My company's gone. There's nothing anyone can do to save it.

>>> Lucas: Carrie, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.

>>> Carrie: [ Exhales deeply ] What kind of heartless person would do this to my employees?

>>> Austin: What is going on with you? Why do you think Carrie would want to hear how well I'm doing when her company's going down in flames?

>>> Sami: Austin, she cares about you, right, and you two are building a new relationship?

>>> Austin: Yes.

>>> Sami: Well, Austin, this company -- your company -- is gonna be a very big part of the future that you two are building together. Yeah, she's really upset about losing her company, but she's gonna be thrilled for you.

>>> Austin: Do you really think that?

>>> Sami: Well, put yourself in her position. Yeah, she just lost her company, but thank God you still have yours, right?

>>> Austin: Yeah. Yeah, you're right. You're right. Anyhow, I wanted to talk to her before she left -- just tell her that everything's gonna be okay.

>>> Austin: Thank you, Sami, for your support. It really does -- it means a lot. And I am sorry that I thought you were trying to come between us again.

>>> Sami: That's okay, Austin. I understand. And you bring out the best in me.

>>> Austin: Well, I'll see you later, okay?

>>> Sami: Yeah.

>>> Austin: I just thought of something.

>>> Sami: What?

>>> Austin: [ Laughs ] I don't even know the name of Carrie's company. I'll gonna go online and do some research and see if there's something I can do to help her.

>>> Sami: You know, Austin, I asked Carrie for her address in L.A., and I think that it was her business card that she stuck in my address book. I never even looked at it. Do you want me to check?

>>> Austin: Oh, do you mind?

>>> Sami: Yeah, no problem. Nicole didn't need to trash my desk again. Oh, my God.

>>> Austin: What?

>>> Sami: Austin, I don't even know how to...say this.

>>> Austin: What?

>>> Sami: I --

>>> Austin: What? Carrie is the CEO of Highstyle? She's the person's life I just destroyed.

>>> Security Guard: Who called for security?

>>> John: I did. John Black, ISA.

>>> Security Guard: What's the problem, Sir?

>>> John: Attempted murder.

>>> Kate: What? Alex tried to kill Marlena again? I thought he was in I.C.U. Are you all right?

>>> Marlena: I'm fine.

>>> Kate: Well, what happened? How did he get you up on the rooftop?

>>> Marlena: It wasn't Alex. He wasn't a threat. It was Lois. She tried to kill me.

>>> John: Yeah, apparently she's crazy.

>>> Alex: Clinically speaking, she's had a psychotic break and is delusional.

>>> John: Whatever. Call the Salem P.D. take her in. Have her booked for attempted murder.

>>> Alex: John, she shouldn't be put in jail. She needs help, not incarceration.

>>> John: That's up for the courts to decide. She needs to be in custody.

>>> Alex: I know you don't remember your psychiatric training, but I'm sure you'd agree.

>>> Marlena: I do agree. This woman needs psychiatric help.

>>> Alex: She needs to be taken to a secure place and watched closely. I won't be pressing charges.

>>> Marlena: I won't press charges, either.

>>> John: Oh, for God's sakes, come on. She tried to kill you.

>>> Marlena: Well, you tried to kill Alex. I don't know. Maybe you should go to jail, too.

>>> John: [ Exhales sharply ]

>>> Alex: What do you say, John? A little quid pro quo? I won't press charges against you if you let Lois get the help she needs.

>>> Hope: [ Sniffles ] How's Claire?

>>> Shawn D.: The transplant was a success. Zack's liver was perfect.

>>> Hope: Thank God. I'm so glad for Belle and Philip.

>>> Shawn D.: Yeah. Yeah. Me too. Everyone is so grateful for the decision that you and Dad made, Mom. It's because of that that Claire's alive. And now she's gonna be even more special to us because Zack will always be a part of her.

>>> Hope: My heart was breaking for Belle and Philip. I was praying so hard that Claire would find a donor.

>> [ Cries ]

>>> Hope: [ Sniffles ] I just never thought it would be my baby -- Zack.

>> [ Sniffles ]

>>> Shawn D.: I keep thinking that he's here with us, you know? I can't think of any other place that he belongs than with his family, and... I guess -- I guess God wanted him in heaven.

>>> Hope: How could this be God's plan? I don't believe that.

>>> Shawn D.: I-I don't think we'll ever understand.

>>> Hope: I'm so afraid... that one day I'll close my eyes...and I w-- I won't be able to hear his voice.

>>> Shawn D.: Mom, that is never going to happen, okay? We're not gonna forget.

>>> Hope: I don't want tomorrow to come.

>>> Hope: [ Sniffles ] It'll be the first day without Zack in this world. And then it'll be his birthday... and then Christmas, and then it'll be New Year's again.

>>> Hope: [ Sniffles ] It was hard to see my baby grow up so fast. He's never gonna grow up.

>>> Shawn D.: Mom, the important thing is that he was happy every single day with us. That's the truth.

>>> Hope: And so were we. We never will be again.

>>> Shawn D.: No, that's -- you can't think like that, okay?

>>> Hope: I just want Zack back. I want my baby back. I want Zack back.

>> [ Crying ]

>>> Roman: Oh, my God. Chelsea -- your daughter -- hit and killed Zack?

>>> Bo: That's why Billie took the blame.

>>> Roman: To protect her daughter?

>>> Bo: Yeah. We can't charge her with anything. She didn't steal my car. She didn't hit Zack.

>>> Roman: Bo, what the hell are you asking me to do?

>>> Bo: I don't know, Roman. I-I tried to tell Hope the truth, but she's too upset. And Billie was so insistent, I couldn't get a word in.

>>> Roman: And now that Billie's been arrested, it's that much harder.

>>> Bo: Yeah. I lied to my wife. And Chelsea -- I just -- how can I turn her in? It's --

>>> Roman: Oh, my God. I wish to hell I knew what to tell you.

>>> Bo: Yeah. Well... it gets worse. Chelsea's license was suspended, and I signed for her to get a temporary one before she finished her driving classes... and I loaned her my truck.

>>> Roman: And Hope doesn't know that, either?

>>> Bo: I'm just as responsible for what happened to Zack as Chelsea is. When I tell Hope the truth, she's gonna turn her back on me, and I can't let her go through this on her own.

>>> Carrie: Listen to this one. "Dear Mrs. Brady, being a single mother, I thought I had a secure job that would support my family and put my two children through school. And this morning I came to work, only to be told to go home -- that I no longer had a job. How could you let this happen to us?" Or how about this one? It's a tad more succinct.

>>> Lucas: All right, all right.

>>> Carrie: [ Exhales sharply ] Or my personal favorite -- "did you hear the one about the blonde who was so stupid she let someone steal her company right out from under her nose?" It doesn't even need a punch line.

>>> Lucas: Look, I'm really sorry, Carrie, but once you get together with your employees, they'll realize none of this was your fault.

>>> Carrie: It wasn't my fault? Of course it was my fault, Lucas. I was the new CEO I was supposed to save the company, not run it into the ground.

>>> Lucas: You know what? If you ask me, I think you would have been a huge success if it hadn't been for that bastard who stole your company when it was vulnerable.

>>> Carrie: I think you're right.

>>> Lucas: I know I'm right. He didn't even want to work with you. He didn't even try to salvage things.

>>> Carrie: You offered to do that.

>>> Carrie: [ Groans ] Damn it. Why did I have to be so stubborn and try and do it all on my own?

>>> Lucas: All right, listen. Even hostile takeovers don't have to be this ugly. He didn't have to fire everyone in your company. He didn't have to freeze you out like this.

>>> Carrie: Well, he or she did, and now I've lost everything.

>>> Lucas: You still have me.

>>> Carrie: [ Chuckles ] That's true. And I still have my family and my friends.

>>> Lucas: Mm-hmm.

>>> Carrie: Thank God I've reconnected with Austin. I need him more than ever now.

>>> Lucas: [ Thinking ] But once you find out he's behind the destruction of your company, you'll hate him, and I'll be the one you turn to. Come here.

>>> Carrie: [ Sniffles ]

>> [ Sighs ]

>>> Austin: Carrie is the CEO of Highstyle? How could I have not have known that?

>>> Sami: Well, her name wasn't on any of the paperwork. I can't believe it happened, either. It's such a coincidence. And -- and I wish I had looked at her business card sooner.

>>> Austin: What I don't understand is why was there all this corporate secrecy? Why didn't she tell anyone she knew that she was CEO of Highstyle?! Damn it! I-I knew this was no way to do business. I wanted to talk to the CEO I tried, but we had to act fast.

>>> Sami: Well, Austin, would you really have done anything different if you had known that it was Carrie?

>>> Austin: Well, of course I would I have! What kind of question is that?!

>>> Sami: Don't get mad at me.

>>> Austin: I would never have gone ahead with this if I knew it was Carrie!

>>> Sami: Don't get mad at me. You're the one who said that we needed to take over Highstyle for the success of our company.

>>> Austin: Not if I knew what it would have done to Carrie. Oh, my... I stole her company. I-I confiscated her inventory. I fired all of her employees. I -- this is horrible. This is the absolute worst thing that could have happened.

>>> Sami: I feel horrible, too.

>>> Austin: I have to go talk to her. I have to...try and explain this.

>>> Sami: Yeah, you should do that, and think about it -- she should hear it from you.

>>> Austin: Well, obviously, Sami, I have to be the one who tells her!

>>> Sami: You don't need to snap at me. The bottom line is she's gonna blame the whole thing on me anyway.

>>> Austin: Don't worry. I will make sure that she knows that this is all my fault. This is gonna be one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.

>>> Sami: I can't wait to see this.

>>> Alex: Well, John?

>>> John: All right. Take her down to a secure room. See that Dr. Carver gets her the care she so desperately needs.

>>> Kate: How the hell did -- how the hell did you get up here?

>>> Marlena: Well, Lois came into my office and tried to kill me. We fought. She knocked me unconscious and then somehow got me up here on the roof.

>>> Kate: And she threw you off the roof?

>>> Marlena: Mm-hmm. She tried. I was able to cling to the edge until Alex got here, and then John got here and pulled me up.
